About INDIAN MOTORCYCLES
Indian Motorcycle is an American brand originally established in 1901 in Springfield, Massachusetts, and gained prominence as a leading motorcycle manufacturer. Founded by George M. Hendee and Oscar Hedstrom, both former bicycle racers and manufacturers, the company transitioned to motorcycles and swiftly rose to success. The first Indian Motorcycles prototype was built in 1901, and by 1902, they introduced their motorcycles to the public. With innovations like chain drives and a distinctive deep red color introduced in 1904, Indian motorcycles gained popularity, reaching an annual production peak of 32,000 in 1913. The brand made history by clinching the top three positions in the 1911 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy.
Despite its early success, Indian Motorcycle Company faced financial challenges and underwent various ownership changes. The company eventually went bankrupt in the 1950s, leading to a hiatus in production. In 2011, Indian Motorcycle was revived by Polaris Industries, a leading power sports manufacturer. The brand was relaunched with a new lineup of motorcycles that paid homage to its classic designs while incorporating modern technology and engineering.
